Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAUREEN ELIZABETH PENNEFATHER (nee TAYLOR) November 5, 1940 - May 12, 2016 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Maureen Pennefather on May 12, 2016. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marcia Pennefather of Raleigh, North Carolina and Elizabeth Pennefather of Burlington, Ontario; and her grandchildren, Liam Grady and Victoria Grady of Raleigh, NC. Maureen will be sadly missed by her dear cousins, Carl (Sue) Stovel, Trish Stovel, and Marnie Stovel of Victoria, British Columbia and William Stovel of Winnipeg, Manitoba and their children. Maureen was predeceased in 2009 by her beloved husband Richard; her brother Brett Taylor in 2004 and her parents Hilliard and Madeline Taylor. Maureen was born in Winnipeg and attended Viscount Alexander High School. She graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and went on to complete her Bachelor of Nursing at McGill University in 1965. Maureen and Richard met at the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club and were married in 1966. After raising her children, Maureen returned to work, spending 15 years working as a Case Manager for the Hamilton-Wentworth Community Care Access Centre. Maureen loved to travel and celebrated her 75th year on a river cruise through Europe with her daughter Elizabeth and her 75th birthday in Budapest with her daughter Marcia, cousin Trish and grandson Liam. She enjoyed many trips to North Carolina to see her grandchildren. Maureen was blessed with many wonderful friends with whom she enjoyed the theatre, playing in two women's bridge clubs, and seeing at nursing class reunions in Winnipeg. Maureen will be remembered for her warmth, generous nature, wonderful sense of humour and her unconditional support to her children, relatives and friends. Special thanks to all of the caring staff at the Hamilton General Hospital, especially Dr. Sharma, Dr. Ng, and Dr. Mohammed, and to Dr. Reimer at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. Visitation at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington, Ontario on Tuesday, May 17th at 12:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at Guelph Line Chapel, 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hamilton General Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
